For
an unparalleled wildlife experience with superb bird watching and
spectacular scenery, Machrihanish offers what is arguably the best
of Kintyre.
|
You are warmly welcomed by Eddie Maguire, who has been at the
Observatory for many years. His top-of-the-range binocular
and telescope allow you to get "up close" to the birds,
so much so, you feel like you could reach out and touch
them!
With his knowledge Eddie can identify a bird in flight (without
binoculars) and guide
you on the points to look for as it flies by.

Eddie can attach a digital camera to the telescope to take
photographs - as above - magic !
Visitors may use this telescope and see for themselves the fine
details of the birds and wildlife on Kintyre.
Situated at the southern end of Machrihanish Bay, this low
promontory juts well out into the Atlantic. The coast to
the north presents a long line leading to the point, ensuring -
when conditions are right - a steady passage of birds just after
dawn. But, you do not have to be up early to catch the
birds - visit anytime during the day and there is usually
something to see !
Definitely worth a visit.
