Muasdale Holiday Park
(lots to see on a daily basis on park or on the beach)

2007
May: All the usual birds were spotted.
3rd, 4th & 5th May - visited by Whimbrel.
Gannets seen flying over reef several times. Baby
Shelducks rescued from road and taken "into care"
from cats and Black backed gulls. Roe Deer seen on
hill behind site. Bats flying around in the
evening. Baby Eider ducks with Mum and Aunts visited
our shore. Large number of seals seen daily basking on
reef just offshore.
June: All the usual birds spotted. Population
explosion of seals from about 50 to 75. 12th June -
otter spotted feeding on beach.
July: All the usual birds spotted.
3rd/4th July - brought lots of Dolphin activity. 18th July - had a visitor Dolphin spotting whilst doing a
sea trip around Gigha - about 30 of them !! 26th
July - gave us the unique opportunity to photograph seals
& their pups on "the point" - quite close to
the beach.
August: All the usual birds for this time of
year spotted. Whimbrel spotted on 13th August -
several times and again on 28th August.
September: All the usual birds spotted.
Herons visit every morning and evening. Whimbrels pop
up on a regular basis. Dolphins were spotted on 13th
October. Lesser Black Backed Gulls are around.
Stonechats perch on the highest point in the long grass.
Oyster catchers strut their stuff on the shoreline.
October: All the usual birds spotted. 6th
October -11 Oystercatchers on our beach. 7th October -
we saw a Whimbrel with a damaged leg, hopping around and
sinking in the sand if too soft. Young seal pup was seen on
a rock close to shore. 10 to 18th October - brought a lot
of Heron activity. 20th - a Redshank joined in with the Oystercatchers looking for food.
23rd October - Eider Ducks (Male & Female), Red Breasted Mergansers
(Male & Female), lots of Seals on reef.
November: Bit of a rest bite from wildlife spotting,
holiday takes priority.
December: Various sea gulls were spotted,
Golden Eyes, Oystercatchers. Eider Ducks and Ringed
Plovers. A pod of about 5/6 dolphins swam by on 17th
December, I managed to take a few photographs and have added
them to the Wildlife photos in Past Weather section.
2008
January: Various sea gulls were spotted, Seals, Cormorants,
Golden Eyes, Oystercatchers, Eider Ducks, Collared Doves,
Chaffinches, Goldfinches, Sparrows, Blue Tits, Blackbirds,
Roe Deer eat grass around static, sheep doing the same !
February: Various sea gulls were spotted, Seals, Cormorants,
Golden Eyes, Oystercatchers, Eider Ducks,
Chaffinches, Goldfinches, Sparrows, Blue Tits.
March: Various seagulls
were spotted, Seals, Cormorants, Golden Eyes,
Oystercatchers, Eider Ducks, Red Breasted Mergansers,
Stonechats, Robins, various finches, Buzzards. 2nd
March, Roe Deer on hill behind park. 25th March,
dolphins heading north and then south. 27th March,
dolphins head north and then south. Various
dates: 30th March. Dolphins at
Westport.
April: Various seagulls were spotted, seals,
cormorants, Golden Eyes, Oystercatchers, Eider Ducks, Red
Breasted Mergansers, Stonechats, Robins, various Finches,
Siskins, Crows & Hooded Crows, Buzzards, Pipistrelle
Bats. 3rd April - saw the Roe Deer on the park, eating
grass around the statics, 9th April - saw Shelducks,
12th April - saw the Great Northern Diver, 13th April
- the swallows came back day earlier than last year (but
then it was a leap year), now nesting in loft space above
Reception, entry via the Games Room, 20th April - Whimbrels
arrived back, spotted 1 at first and then 11 or more - still
here in May.
